Updated: Jun 19
This is the most up-to-date and in-depth Virgin Australia interview and an assessment day breakdown for pilots conducting the assessment in 2024 you will find on the internet. This page includes breakdowns of every aspect including hints and tips to get you through your interview. The Virgin pilot assessment is harder than the QF assessment however a much more rewarding and enjoyable day. Virgin now organise flights and hotels for applicants who are based outside of Brisbane for the assessment day which is much appreciated and a stand out from other organisations.

July Update: Latest feedback
Nevertheless your website was spot on as usual and was a great tool in preparation.
This was my experience hope it helps for the guys and girls going through.
The group assessment for us was a new one they were trialling I guess you could say. The 5 of us picked a random statement, we would then lead off a 5min discussion on the topic and following that a 1min summary to the assessors. Statements centred around: - seniority vs merit-ority - in-flight loss of control (how to reducing occurrences) - automation and over reliance of it - single pilot operations by 2035 - how airlines can reduce their environmental impact
For my behavioural interview I…
Successful Candidate/May: Congrats!
There were 5 candidates on the day in my group. We had Bonza, Alliance and a management pilot from General Aviation. All high time, well qualified and good candidate’s. They give you a timetable at the beginning of the day (try not to lose it). You cycle through most of the assessments individually - asides from the group exercise.
The group exercise changes time to time, but it doesn't really matter. I was a last minute ring in so I did the best I could. Don't overpower anyone, or sit there quietly. Participate, offer praise, have a laugh and have some constructive ideas and you will do just fine. There are people who know the scenarios well…
April Update: Successful
My interview with Virgin was very similar to your study materials. - The group exercise was the river and boat one. - The psychometric we’re very similar to the latestpilotjobs website, the Middle East test that they have. - the sim profile exactly same as your site - the interview very similar to your site, all the questions were in your site. Thank you very much for your help, your study materials are really good.
FEB VA Update:
There were six people in total for the VA assessment, all with a commercial background - myself, one from Rex and the others from Q-link.
Best I remember from the VA assessment is -
1. Group task - IFR A/C goes down in the Bass St after 1hr of flying on a 3 hr flight. Route between Devonport and Adelaide. Position at time of ditching was south of flight planned route, and the pilot made a Mayday call that wasn't replied to before the plane went down. There was a list of stuff given that we had available, and needed to prioritise the items and decide upon the strategy to proceed from that point on. One person…
Recently VARA Successful Candidate.
Easy Aviation Theory was very helpful. Sim was almost identical to EAT, you can expect inbound and outbound radials using Azimuth needle and may be asked how long till you pass overhead the VOR, so know your simple GS calculations and know where to find DME distance.
Interview was as per EAT prep, tell us a time this happened, why do you want to work for VARA, what would you do in this situation etc.
On the day we were given a 50 question multiple choice paper quiz, we were told this was the first time this had been done but would be the norm going forward as they step away from COMPASS testing. The questions…
